Events leading to the Death of Dawn Walker.
Kevin last saw Dawn Walker on Wednesday 2nd February 2005 after a gym session at the Swallow Country Club in Country Club in Fornham St. Martin, Suffolk.
They both attended the Gym that evening. According to CCTV footage from the club Dawn Walker left the gym at 9.30pm but it transpires that the clock on the video recording equipment was at least 46 minutes fast! It had not been reset from British summer time. Suffolk Police knew of this on the 12th February 2005 but failed to act on this vital information.
The Suffolk Police based the whole investigation from the outset on these times. The police had issued posters of Dawn Walker leaving the club at 9.30pm and asking the public to come forward with any information at this time. The Police accused Kevin Nunn of lying about his movements as that evening was the last time he saw Dawn Walker.
Kevin Nunn told the police he went to Dawn's home approximately 10 minutes after Dawn's departure from the Country Club which was infact approximately 8.30pm.
This is collaborated on the CCTV footage from the Country Club - Kevin said they calmly discussed the relationship and mutually decided the relationship wasn’t working. He categorically states he left Dawn Walker's house about 15/20 minutes later, going straight home approximately 20 minutes away.
Kevin sent text message to Dawn Walker on the 2 February 2005 at 10.15pm from his home. On this text he said he would drop the key through the door and that she could keep the cooking utensils as he would not be making mince pies again, something they enjoyed doing Christmas 2004.
He said he felt somewhat relieved they had finally reached a decision that evening February 2 2005. Kevin had told Dawn in January 2005 that he felt the relationship was over but she had turned up in the early hours banging on his door. They talked and agreed to give the relationship another try.
The same evening (2nd Feb 05 ) a number of witness stated seeing 3 women in Oaks Close, near Dawn Walker's house, asking for the whereabouts of Dawn's house – they asked for the number of the house.
They were young women, casually dressed, one having nose piercing and all having London accents.
They were in a vehicle that had distinctive flourescent lilac window wipers.
The Suffolk Police appealed on TV for these three women to come forward. These women never came forward in police enquiries and were never traced.
Two men acting suspiciously in the Country Club on 2 February at approximately 8.30 pm.
Another witness saw 2 strange men in the vicinity of the Golf Club around 8.30pm but left around the time Dawn Walker was leaving the club.
These men were eliminated from inquiries as the police stated in their log they were 'outside the time line' but as the CCTV footage was incorrect that was not the case.
They were again seen later the next day in the main town acting suspiciously and the same witness took their car registration number – the Police made no attempt to trace these men.
Kevin Nunn received a voice message from Dawn Walker around 4.50am Thurs 3rd February 05 but did not retrieve it until around 7.50am when he got up for work but accidentally deleted it. Dawn sounded distressed. Kevin texted Dawn but had no response. He went to work but continued to make enquiries re her whereabouts throughout his working day.
The alleged argument.
Some neighbours in Oak Close heard an argument around 10/10.30pm Wednesday 2 February 2005 – others did not.
Various times and versions of what the person looked like was produced as evidence.
Witness Thompson, who lives opposite Dawn Walker in Oak Close, took a quick look through his living room window and said he saw a chap arguing with Dawn Walker at approx 10.00 -10.30pm, his description was given as Dawn's height and wearing a suit. He said he "assumed" it was Dawn's boyfriend.
Dawn Walker was around 5’10” Kevin Nunn is around 5’8”. Kevin had come from the gym and the CCTV shows him leaving in casual clothing. Dawn left the gym around 8.30pm and Kevin left shortly afterwards.
Kevin was seen leaving the gym around 8.40pm wearing casual clothing.
The main prosecution witness, Dale, also hears an argument around 10pm but does nothing about it, although she heard a female voice shouting “get off” “get off”, and failed to tell any of her family members but went to bed.
On Thurs 3.February 05 another witness, Tipple, saw what she thought was a silver “sporty” type car parked in the Oaks close around 5am. She described seeing 2 men, not fitting Kevin's description, but both being around 6" tall, with longish hair .
